Teri Genovese Photography Blog bio picture

in a nutshell:

I am hopelessly sentimental and love creating art by documenting the beauty I perceive in life.  I live for yoga, hiking, weekend road trips, a good book, keeping a daily journal, and anything chocolate.  :)

As a Los Angeles based freelance photographer, I specialize in documentary children's portraits and fine art photography.  I received a BA in photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2003.  My work has since been published in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Parent Magazine, Los Angeles Times.com, Chicago Public Radio.com, and countless Chicago Children's Museum publications.

inspiration:

There is a quiet beauty all around us every day.  It is so often overlooked, but magical when seen.  Photography is a gift that has always inspired me to truly see and appreciate life’s subtleties… those heart-wrenchingly beautiful moments in everyday life that make you pause and feel utterly grateful.

Those are the moments I strive to capture...

Unconditional Love

My very best friend approached me several months ago with an idea to present her parents with a special photography session for her immediate family. Many conversations and lots of brainstorming later, we decided that we should go all out and do a weekend documentary project at their family cottage up north in Michigan. The main goal is to create an amazing hard cover book telling the story of their family’s “Unconditional Love” (our working title.) I can not even begin to express my excitement for this project… to create such a unique and soulful body of work for their family. It will be a wonderful experience to document a weekend’s worth of adventures and the complex and intertwining relationships of 8 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs, and a cat at their “home away from home.”

I decided to make a handmade book as the gift certificate in order to express all of my thoughts and information I hoped to share. This small project revived so much of my love for making books of all types, and now I really can’t wait to work on designing their professionally printed fine art photography book! I will post images from their session late in the summer, so check back!

Here’s some pictures of the handmade gift certificate booklet. It was presented to their family last weekend on her mom’s 60th birthday and even though I wasn’t there to experience the joy, I received an incredibly positive response. I am so excited!

P.S. Congrats to my mini-session winners!
