Teri Genovese Photography Blog bio picture

in a nutshell:

I am a documentarian at heart.  Observing the subtle beauty amidst everyday life, near and far, inspires me to no end.  I specialize in creating genuine portraits of childhood and families, and dream of documenting people and cultures around the world.

I received a BA in photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2003, where I learned the traditional craft - in the darkroom.  My work has since been published in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Parent Magazine, Los Angeles Times.com, Chicago Public Radio.com, and countless Chicago Children's Museum publications.

I currently live and work in Grand Rapids, Michigan and travel regularly to Los Angeles, California (where my business began).  I live for yoga, hiking, weekend road trips, a good book, simplicity, and anything chocolate.  :)

santa monica beach photographer

“I didn’t realize. All that was going on in life and we never noticed… Good-bye, Good-bye, world. Good-bye, Grover’s Corners… Good-bye to clocks ticking and Mama’s sunflowers… And new-ironed dresses and hot baths. And sleeping and waking up. Oh, earth, you’re too wonderful for anybody to realize you. Do any human beings ever realize life...

Is it odd that I’m surrounded by boxes and I STILL don’t think we are actually moving? Well, the movers come tomorrow so I have a feeling this is going to happen whether I am ready or not. I will be taking portrait commissions in West Michigan as of late-October 2010. I will also …

every once in awhile… magic happens.

Los Angeles Fine Art Family Photographer

Photography can be a truly magical medium. This silhouette photograph was taken in a Los Angeles city park. The background was actually cluttered with fences and buildings, basketball courts and tennis courts, people walking by… However, by carefully choosing my vantage point and exposure, and thoughtfully positioning my subjects, there is no sign of a...

runyon canyon bench series (post 7)

Runyon Canyon Fine Art Photographs; Hollywood, California

There is no need to look for the bench in this next set of photographs. (Because I’m either sitting on it or walking away from it.) Each time I reach the peak of my hikes lately, I no longer feel the need to take a picture of the bench. Instead, I feel a strong pull...

Runyon Canyon Bench Fine Art Photograph Hollywood, California

There is another reason this project exists. I am hopelessly sentimental, so when I know I will miss something, I photograph it. It’s how I deal with change.. and change is not my favorite. It’s why I chose to start photographing this bench several months ago. I knew that change was upon us and here...

malibu, california fine art photographs

“Our truth lies in what we love, and as we remind ourselves that we have loved and do love, we find our way unerringly back to the place from which accomplish is possible… it’s almost impossible to make a list of heart loves without concluding we live in a rich, savory, and enjoyable world where...
