Teri Genovese Photography Blog bio picture

in a nutshell:

I am a documentarian at heart.  Observing the subtle beauty amidst everyday life, near and far, inspires me to no end.  I specialize in creating genuine portraits of childhood and families, and dream of documenting people and cultures around the world.

I received a BA in photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2003, where I learned the traditional craft - in the darkroom.  My work has since been published in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Parent Magazine, Los Angeles Times.com, Chicago Public Radio.com, and countless Chicago Children's Museum publications.

I currently live and work in Grand Rapids, Michigan and travel regularly to Los Angeles, California (where my business began).  I live for yoga, hiking, weekend road trips, a good book, simplicity, and anything chocolate.  :)

this is it. / this is life.

los angeles fine art portrait photographer

In these moments, it’s true… nothing else matters.

capturing the everyday.

los angeles baby photographer

I truly believe in the importance of capturing everyday life. Beyond the perfectly poised portrait, I feel there is an even larger place for the photographs that capture the in-between. The ever so ordinary. The Cheerios-on-chins and larger-than-life baby-food-bites kind of moments. He will only be this age once. I …

true love wins.

Grand Rapids Portrait Photography

“True love wins” was the title of the email Stacy sent after I asked if she could share a few words describing her and Adam’s relationship (to simply inspire ideas for our engagement photo session.) The masterpiece I received in my inbox made my eyes well right up with tears. How lucky I …

malibu beach portraits

Looking back to last August/September when we were amidst the final stretch of planning and preparation for our big move, the days swirled together and vanished like leaves blowing in the wind. Spending time with close friends, visiting my favorite places, and photographing some of my wonderful clients during this brief and bittersweet time …

The Venice Sign, Diana Camera Film Photographs Venice, California

These two photographs appeared on the same roll of film as the Runyon photographs in my previous post and they stood out to me immediately. So, maybe it took me about 3 months to take 12 exposures on this roll of film using my plastic, imperfectly-perfect Diana camera (and 5 months before I actually …

I had to refer back to the tiny purple notebook I carried along on my hikes to figure out when this roll of film was started: August 10th, 2010.. 5 months ago! In December, I finally mailed my exposed roll of film back to the photo lab I used to live down the street from....
