encinitas beach session..

I traveled down to Encinitas a couple of Saturdays ago to meet the most awesome family! Both parents not only grew up in Southern California beach towns, but they currently live on the beach… so, it only made sense to photograph them there. Encinitas happens to be the coolest beach I’ve ever seen, so taking pictures there was a treat. Tide pools and a mossy rock backdrop put a spin on the typical beach session. It also took this adorable 9 month old to make these photographs so special:

a sunless sunset (but beautiful nonetheless)

i’ve met and photographed so many unique families lately and this one was no exception. in fact, i’ve wanted to meet this family since they first emailed me in the fall of 2007! i was so excited when they wrote again a few weeks ago to see about documenting this special time. not only are they expecting a little boy, but they are also in the process of adopting their second daughter from China, which i think is so wonderful. even though we didn’t get a typical sunny california beach day, the light was soft and still so beautiful in its own way. i had such a great time with this little one for sure. at 3, she has such a big girl voice and made me smile the whole time through.

i can’t wait to meet the little one who is due the first week of July! thanks again for braving the unusually chilly ocean air; it was worth it for sure!

one happy family..

i loved meeting this family.. so much. it’s people like them who make my work so enjoyable and carefree, it’s ridiculous! i was greeted at the door by 2 big brothers wearing the biggest grins i have ever seen. i can’t say we needed any time to “warm up,” and i can hardly explain how much love exploded from these boys for their little 1 year old sister. this family is truly unique and so in love with their miracle baby. the sense of peace and calm i felt in their presence and in their home was profound. i feel so very grateful to have the opportunity to record such special every day moments, that in the big scheme of things, mean everything in the world.

a special gift.

once in a while, i hear from someone from a different city or, in this case, from the opposite corner of the country who wants to arrange a photo session for a friend. it’s always exciting to be chosen to take part in giving such a special gift.

i had a super fun time with these 2 year old twins, who are obviously beyond adorable, and their awesome parents last weekend. thanks so much to this family and their wonderful friend in Massachusetts who brought us together to make some beautiful photographs!

happy holidays!

to say that 2008 was a joy is an understatement. i can’t even begin to express my gratitude to all of my new and returning clients for allowing me the opportunity to document so many very special family moments.

wishing you joy and sweet memories this holiday season and always! :)

please note: we will be closed for the holidays until Tuesday, Jan. 6th. all emails and voicemails will be returned after this date. thank you and have a safe and wonderful holiday!

watching them grow..

..is what makes my work so special. i photographed these beautiful babies at 4 weeks, 4 months, and here they are at 7 months.. a few of my favorites from our most recent session:

i have this problem with wrapping up a session quite often. i’ll just keep taking my camera back out of its bag, shooting here and there, after we’ve considered our session to be over. i can’t help it and this is why..

..i almost always capture an amazing moment within the last couple of photographs i take, after we’ve “finished.”
