Teri Genovese Photography Blog bio picture

in a nutshell:

I am hopelessly sentimental and love creating art by documenting the beauty I perceive in life.  I live for yoga, hiking, weekend road trips, a good book, keeping a daily journal, and anything chocolate.  :)

As a Los Angeles based freelance photographer, I specialize in documentary children's portraits and fine art photography.  I received a BA in photography from Columbia College Chicago in 2003.  My work has since been published in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Parent Magazine, Los Angeles Times.com, Chicago Public Radio.com, and countless Chicago Children's Museum publications.

inspiration:

There is a quiet beauty all around us every day.  It is so often overlooked, but magical when seen.  Photography is a gift that has always inspired me to truly see and appreciate life’s subtleties… those heart-wrenchingly beautiful moments in everyday life that make you pause and feel utterly grateful.

Those are the moments I strive to capture...

documentary children's photographer

While we try to teach our children all about life,

~Angela Schwindt

As I was reflecting on my recent photo session of this sweet 16 month old little girl, I couldn’t help but re-connect so strongly with the very reason that led me to photograph children in the first...

May 14, 2009 - 10:36 pm Kimberly - These are just beautiful. I love how you captured each child's personality. The picture of C. playing on the floor will forever be a reminder of this time in her life. I want A. to have the picture of her holding C. when she grows up, so I can remind her what an awesome big sister she is. You can almost see little N's mind figuring out the world in these pictures. I can't wait to see more. Thank you so much for sharing the day with our family.

May 14, 2009 - 11:29 pm Teri - thank you, kimberly! it was so wonderful to spend the day together - your family is an inspiration! A. is such an awesome big sister and i was thrilled when i captured that moment.. i knew it would be special. and i have to tell you, i'm missing C.'s tight hugs already! hope to see you guys again soon. thanks again!

May 17, 2009 - 10:39 pm wordsmith - C and A and N are growing like weeds!!! K looks the same- a beautiful, loving mom. The photos are very evocative of their essence. It's like you captured a story in each photo, and I can picture movement and conversation, and what might have been going on.

May 17, 2009 - 11:08 pm Teri - thank you michael! it's very encouraging to know that you can see their essence in the photos. that was definitely my ultimate goal! it's very different (in a wonderful way) to photograph a family i've known for awhile. :)
